The Toronto International Film Festival opens it’s 40th season Thursday but the Mayor had his attention focused on something else.
John Tory met with Interfaith leaders to discuss the efforts to help Syrian Refugees who are looking to start a new life, and he says the city is preparing to host 1, 000 over the 2 years.
He announced a few initiatives, including the collection of donations, not only monetary but clothing and furniture, as well as volunteer time, and setting up a housing registry so the refugees can find a place to stay.
Tory says these are all things which need to be acted on, and can be in a fairly quick manner.
“That’s what we’re here for. To help people when they get to our city, to have the kind of productive and peaceful life they are coming here to find.” – John Tory.
