It’s a fact students and their parents are very aware of. Post-secondary education is very expensive in Ontario.
The latest numbers from Statistics Canada indicate tuition costs here are the highest in the country, for the 7th straight year.
Average tuition fees in Ontario for the 2015-2016 year are $7868, nearly $350 dollars higher than the last academic year.
The lowest fees are being paid in Newfoundland and Labrador, $2660 for this school year.
The numbers are being taken very seriously by the Canadian Federation of Students-Ontario, which is looking for the Liberal government to get involved, by reducing fees and reinvesting in post-secondary education to reverse the trend.
“For seven years, Ontario has found itself ranked the most expensive place in the country to pursue post-secondary education, yet the government seems content with its reputation as the home of high-cost, low-quality education. At what point does this data become a public policy priority for the provincial government instead of an annual PR exercise?” – Rajean Hoilett, Chairperson.
