With more pedestrians expected to share the roads this week, at least one city councillor wants to make sure they make it to their destinations safely.
Norm Kelly is asking pedestrians to give drivers the finger, a tongue-in-cheek way to remind those on foot to extend their arms and point in the direction they are going when using crosswalks.
“3% of pedestrian injuries and fatalities in Toronto occur at marked crosswalks. This is a statistic which could be significantly reduced if pedestrians make the effort to point, pause then proceed. Getting the attention of motorists before crossing the street eliminates the possibility of a collision.”- Councillor Kelly.
And with the resumption of school this week, drivers are also being reminded to be cautious of children on the street.
