A Canadian Federation of Independent Business survey finds about three-quarters of small business owners believe the work ethic of new hires has deteriorated over the last few years. 88% of business owners struggle to find qualified applicants. 50% think wage expectations are too high.
This is troubling for many owners, as 65% consider employees the most important component in their business.
“Canada’s small businesses will be the first to tell you that their employees are their greatest strength,” said Dan Kelly, president of CFIB, in a statement. “But they are finding it increasingly difficult to find qualified applicants, especially workers prepared to consider entry-level jobs.”
Have you experienced this? Are new workers lazy? Are employers to blame for offering low wages?
