Toronto police will be kicking off a road safety campaign today to coincide with the new rules and fines for distracted driving across the province.
Minister of transportation Steven Del Duca will be on hand along with Police Chief Mark Saunders to kick off the one day campaign and safety blitz at the Fairview Mall on Sheppard this morning.
It will be a joint effort by Toronto Police, MTO, CAA and the OPP.
About 40 officers will be targeting drivers in the GTA who use cellphones or other distracting devices while driving.
Cops will be out on the 404, DVP and Gardiner Expressway along with several major city streets.
