Gary Dudley is not happy. He feels that a dog breeder has wronged his family. But is Gary partially to blame for what happened to he and his daughter?
Nine-year-old Jessika was excited to have her first dog.
Father Gary found a dog for sale via an ad on Kijiji. Four puppies were listed at $400 each, sold from a farm near Ottawa.
The ad clearly indicated that the puppies were dewormed and not vaccinated, yet dad decided to jump at the chance for a cheap pet purchase.
He visited the farm, which he claims was “horrible” and had “feces everywhere”.
Despite being leery about completing the purchase, he did so anyway, but offered $100 instead of the $400 asking price. The seller agreed.
After bringing the dog (they named him ‘Cap’) home, the family realized something wasn’t right about the puppy. A vet confirmed that it had parvovirus.
The family decided that the best option was to euthanize Cap.
In retaliation, Gary Dudley brought the police and OSPCA to the breeder. No criminal charges were laid, but the OSPCA is still investigating.
Did Gary have only himself to blame for this unfortunate story? Is kijiji a great place to find a pet? Should you always go to a high-end breeder? Where did you get your pet from?
