The double murders at the Virginia television station during a live broadcast this week has engaged people in the gun debate, but not only from the usual perspective. One question is how appropriate or dangerous is it to give a toy gun (water soaker) to a boy as a toy? An iconic toy of the 1950’s, the Daisy BB gun is completely absent from the Strong National Museum of Play in the U.S. and repeatedly the Daisy BB gun has been nominated for inclusion in the National Toy Hall of Fame. Protests by parents and teachers have kept the toy owned by millions of kids out of the Toy Hall of Fame. Is this political correctness?
Is giving a boy a toy gun paving the road to an unhealthy and perhaps dangerous adult connection with firearms?
