Melissa Selvaggi was at Woodbine beach with a friend when she noticed a man carrying a backpack that looked suspicious. The backpack had a hidden camera in it. Selvaggi confronted the man, he dropped his camera. The camera had a 30 minute recording of close-ups of several women’s bikini-clad buttocks. On Aug 13th Ontario Court Justice Richard Blouin found that the man, Wendell Craig Taylor, violated his victims’ reasonable expectation of privacy in a public space and interfered with their lawful enjoyment of the beach. Taylor, was convicted of mischief, he was acquitted of voyeurism because the judge could not conclude the videos were taken for a sexual purpose. To Selvaggi, the suggestion that the recordings, were for anything but a sexual purpose is ridiculous. How do you feel about the judge’s decision?
