A television reporter and cameraman were shot to death on the air during a live broadcast this morning in Virginia. Reporter Alison Parker and cameraman were conducting an interview with a member of the local chamber of commerce regarding tourism in Franklin County. Parker was seen smiling on camera before eight shots were heard, she screamed as cameraman Adam Ward was shot. Almost instantly the camera drops to the ground and captures a fleeting image of the shooter. The station quickly switched back to an anchor who appeared shocked. Law enforcement personnel has identified the gunman as Vester Lee Flanagan, also known as Bryce Williams. Williams was a former model and employee of the station. He used social media to post videos of the shooting as well as accusations calling Alison Parker a racist. Newsrooms around the world are debating today whether to show the video. Some are airing it while others are choosing not to. Some media outlets have decided to only show the footage online.
Should news stations be showing the video to the public on tonight’s 6 o’clock news?
