The leaders of Canada’s medical establishment were told by one of their own that “weak” doctors are giving in to demands from patients and over-prescribing opioids blamed for an epidemic of drug-related deaths.
Doctors who prescribe heavy-hitting prescription painkillers such as oxycodone often don’t understand them, Dr. Douglas Grant, CEO and registrar of the College of Physicians and Surgeons in Nova Scotia, told delegates at the Canadian Medical Association’s annual general council meeting.
