When it comes down to the choice of a down-payment of the house, or providing your pet with a life-saving operation, what would you do?
A Buffalo couple has spent around $30,000 in an attempt to save their cat’s life. Oki was in need of kidney transplant, and Oki’s owners were willing to go to drastic lengths to save their precious feline. In order to save their cat’s life, Andre Gonciar and Laure Robichon had to travel more than 400 miles to the University of Pennsylvania Veterinary Hospital to give their cat the operation it needed. Not only did they have to bring the cat, but they also had to find a suitable cat donor to supply the new kidney. In order to do this, the couple had to adopt another cat, Cherry, for the operation to take place.
The costs don’t stop there, however, as Oki will now need medicine during its recovery, which will reportedly costs thousands more in additional fees. Why did the couple decide to invest their money to save their pet? After rescuing Oki as a kitten in Romania, Gonciar says that Oki is like a son to him, and hasn’t given up on him since the day before Oki was supposed to be put down for having two paralyzed back legs. Oki and Cherry are currently recovering at their home in Buffalo.
