What week are we in as far as the federal election campaign is concerned? Don’t know? What are the main issues being debated by the party leaders? Don’t know? Will you get energized for the federal election because of the very long campaign (by Canadian standards)?
Green’s view, why do we need election campaigns at all? Overly long and droning election campaigns, which clearly don’t energize enough Canadians, since only about 60% of eligible voters will show up to vote on October 19? This isn’t 1915, when politicians needed to take the train to different communities to spread their message. This is 2015 when a one page list of promises and commitments by political parties (preferably written in Twitterspeak) should be available online and by mail, with links to detailed information on promises for those who want that extra information fed to your smartphones and other cyber communication devices.
It may be radical, but in my view, election campaigns are as necessary as phone booths on street corners.
