The TTC says it will be testing buses equipped with a new external speaker to tell passengers where the vehicle is heading.
According to the transit agency, four buses will be suiped up with the speakers on a trial basis, running along the 11 Bayview and 7 Bathurst routes.
The feature means the bus will idetify itself upon arriving at the stop, and will tell passengers where it’s going.
The announcements will be audible from outside the bus through a speaker near the front door. The main goal behind them are to assist with the visually impared, or possibly to help tourists, or those having difficulty navigating where they’re going.
The new streetcars already have the feature, and Toronto Rocket subway trains are scheduled to be retrofitted with the outside speakers by April 2016.
