Every scar tells a story.
The story of this scar, and the picture that followed, has turned Helen Aller’s image viral on Facebook, garnering over 56,000 shares and 11.5 million views. Aller’s photo, of a newborn baby resting on his mother’s legs, has gained such attention due to the position of the photo. The woman, who has chosen to remain anonymous, is posing with her newborn son on her legs directly below the scar line of her C-section. The woman had posed for Aller before the birth, and she had mentioned how she was terrified of the possibility of a having a C-section, but is now thankful for the procedure as it saved the lives of both the mother and the son.
Aller is hoping that the photo will help to relive the taboo on such photos and will help to alleviate any tensions that any other mothers and potential mothers have around C-sections, a quite common practice in pregnancy procedures. While a lot of the feedback has been positive and encouraging, Aller has been receiving some negative backlash from the image as well. The strategic positioning of the baby has led some to state that they photo is “disgusting” and “attention-seeking”, but Aller is adamant that the position was just right to keep the wound safe, and the baby happy.
Do you think the photo is a beautiful image of mother and son, or do you think Aller went to far to get the right photo?
