With the Pan Am Games drawing to a close, construction on the Gardiner Expressway is set to resume.
The city issuing a release today stating that work will begin on the elevated portion of the Gardiner from Strachan Avenue to Bathurst Street on Wednesday, August 19.
This is the same date that HOV lane restrictions which have been in place fore more than a month will be lifted.
As a result of the construction, traffic will be reduced to two lanes in both directions with work presently scheduled to be completed in October 2016.
However, as hinted by Mayor John Tory while speaking to reporters on Thursday, there is a possibility that the project be completed ahead of schedule but with a higher price tag.
The first phase was completed months ahead of schedule this spring, with an additional $2 million dollars paid to speed things up.
