New York Yankees outfielder Brett Gardner received some salt in the wounds on Sunday after Toronto Blue Jays’ Jose Bautista home run.
The Blue Jays completed the sweep of their series with the New York Yankees on Sunday with a 2-0 victory, one run coming off a Jose Bautista home run. Typically, this would be a souvenir ball for the fans, but one fan apparently took offense to the gift from Bautista. Shortly after the play, the teenage fan who caught the ball promptly threw it back to the field. Major league scouts maybe calling this young fan, as the ball traveled a considerable distance and struck an unsuspecting Brett Gardner in the back head.
Gardner flinched after being struck, but continued to play in the game. Yankees manager, Joe Girardi, mentioned after the game that it is tradition for the home crowd to throw away opposing team’s home runs, but cautions the fans to aim away from the players.
