It’s likely the economy will be front and centre when the four major party leaders meet in Toronto for the first federal debate.
PM Stephen Harper, NDP Leader Tom Mulcair, Liberal Leader Justin Trudeau and Green Party Leader Elizabeth May will face off on a number of topics including energy, the environment, democracy, foreign policy, and security.
The format of the session is sketchy, but it’s likely to include individual question and answer periods, free discussion and final statements. Speaking order of the candidates will be decided in a draw.
Although Harper is expected to be the target of many verbal attacks, many observers believe it’s Thomas Mulcair’s performance many will be keen to see.
MacLean’s magazine are the hosts of this debate. Past debates have been hosted by a consortium from the major networks.
The other planned debates are The Globe and Mail on Sept. 17, the University of Toronto’s Munk Debates and French network TVA on Oct. 5.
