With the long weekend upon us, the OPP are reminding motorists to obey the Move Over Law.
The law requires drivers to move over one lane if possible when an emergency vehicle is parked on the side of the highway, tow trucks will also be covered under the law this coming fall.
Fines ranging from $400 to $2,000 are handed out to drivers who fail to obey the law and so far this year, 763 charges have been laid.
The family of an OPP officer who was killed on the side of the 401 in 2000 will be present at an education campaign regarding the law at Canada’a Wonderland on Friday.
Sergeant Margaret Eve of the Chatham-Kent Detachment was critically injured when a tractor-trailer crashed into her police cruiser.
She was transported to hospital where she died two days later.
