Police are continuing the search after a 19-year-old inmate escaped from the Elgin Middlesex Detention Centre.
According to London Police, Justin Kunz altered his appearance to look like his cellmate, who was about to be released. Police say it’s possible Kunz threatened his cellmate to keep him quiet.
The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services say the inmate was “improperly released” on Wednesday.
Arrest warrants are being issued for Kunz on charges of impersonation, uttering threats, and being unlawfully-at-large, however, police say they do not believe the public is in danger.
“To date no one has ever escaped on their own or with the help of others, from the Elgin-Middlesex Detention Centre,” spokesman Brent Ross said in a statement. “The improper release of any inmate from a correctional facility is unacceptable and the ministry takes its responsibilities in this area very seriously.”
Kunz was arrested in November 2014 on multiple charges of drugs and firearm possession.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts are asked to contact police at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
