Drivers getting uses to free HOV lanes now in place for the Pan Am Games should prepare for HOT lanes in the future, Premier Kathleen Wynne said.
The HOT lanes would allow motorists who don’t have enough passengers in their car to pay a toll and use the speedier lanes.
Although we don’t know which highways will get HOT lanes or when it will happen, they will be an “important source of revenue” to help bankroll a 10-year, $130-billion plan to improve transit and reduce severe traffic congestion.
“What’s important is that we take the lessons from the HOV lanes. I have heard people talking about how they’ve noticed behaviour changes and that’s what putting in place HOV lanes is meant to do,” Wynne added.
Are HOT lanes a good idea? Would you pay to use them?
