Finance Minister Joe Oliver continues his visit in Toronto, teaming up with Mayor John Tory for an infrastructure announcement this morning.
Oliver commenting on the current economic slowdown assuring Canadians that the current situation should not effect his government’s plans to run a surplus.
Oliver told reporters that the conservatives are confident with their budget plans.
“We’re very comfortable that we will achieve a budgetary surplus this year,” Oliver said. “We’ve looked at our numbers and we’re very comfortable that we will have a surplus this year.”
The Bank of Canada last week lowered its growth projections for this year, expecting real gross domestic product will grow about 1.1 per cent in 2015.
