After more than 3 years of construction, a date has been set for the opening of the pedestrian tunnel, linking Billy Bishop Airport on the Toronto Islands to the mainland.
A ribbon cutting ceremony will be held on July 30th to officially mark it’s opening.
Passengers will then be able to make the journey from Eireann Quay, at the foot of Bathurst Street to the airports check in area in an estimated 6 minutes.
According to Ports Toronto the $82.5 million tunnel was built at no cost to taxpayers, and will provide an alternative to the ferry which is currently the only method of transportation to the Island airport.
The ferry however will still remain operational after the tunnel opens to the public.
