On Monday, the federal government’s enhancements to the Universal Child Care Benefit (UCCB) will be going into effect.
The UCCB is a taxable benefit that applies to families with children under the age of 18. It was created by the Conservative’s after they cancelled daycare agreements in 2006.
The UCCB previously provided families with $100 a month for every child under 6. The expansion will provide families with children under 5 an additional $60 per child. Families with children ages 6-17 will get $60 per child as well.
The increase would give families with children under 6 $1,920 per child annually, and $720 per child annually.
The benefit applies to all Canadian parents with children, regardless of income if they use a daycare service.
