In July 18’s 2pm story about the ticket for littering, we mentioned we’d toss stuff out of the car side windows while driving in the 60’s (biodegradable stuff). Thinking about the 60’s, hasn’t each decade since tried to be as cool, important, relevant as the 60’s? It doesn’t happen. They continue to play the music of the 60’s, hero worship the creations of the 60’s (James Bond) and lust for the cars of the 60’s…’67 Mustang from Bullitt, anyone?
We’ll engage in a little 60’s revisit with singer/songwriter Barry McGuire. His song Eve of Destruction made it to the top of the charts when wax was king. (He updated Eve in 2012 and sounds better now). Great story Barry tells about driving in a VW camper with the Mamas and Pappas on a California highway. Eventually Cass Elliot says “hey, where the hell is McGuire?” He’d scrambled through the sunroof and was sitting on the roof as they trundled down the road.
