July 18’s segment about whether a family has responsibility to spend most of their meagre financial resources paying for a pet’s vet bills generated much response. If it’s not your pet, but rather feral cats, does it matter if they’re killed in huge numbers because of the cats’ predatory habits?
Australia plans to kill two million feral cats because they’re causing extinction of native mammal species. There are 20 million feral cats in Australia by estimate and they kill about 75 million native animals each day!! The official Australian “war on cats” is underway. Is it wrong? The little murderers take out 75 million animals a day. Feral cats are a problem in Canada too. Should Canada engage in our own “war on cats”? Here we try to ‘trap, neuter and return’ feral cats.
If feral cats are killing 75 million other animals each day in Australia, can the numbers be much different here in Canada?
