One of Quebec’s most prominent lawyers, Lu Chan Khuong, was detained after walking out of a department store without paying for two pairs of jeans. She agreed to have the situation dealt with ‘non judicially’. The case did become public knowledge when Khuong was elected president of the provincial law society and declares the jeans incident was a mistake and she is not a shoplifter.
A few days ago I set off store security alarms by just entering the store. I was immediately challenged by an employee, and it took some convincing that the alarm sounded on entering the store, not leaving. After purchasing some items I alerted another employee the alarm might sound as I was leaving. Sure enough, another more intense conversation, during which I suggested they call police. First guy showed up, apologized and the incident ended.
What sets those security systems off when you have nothing from that store?
How is it you enter a half dozen stores in one morning and no security systems ring or clang and then enter another store, carrying the identical things and wearing the same clothes and the systems scream “gotcha!!!!”
Have you ever been grilled over a security system gonging you?
