Torontonians banded together to create a memorial for a dead raccoon at Yonge & Church yesterday after its lifeless body lay there for hours after Toronto 311 and Animals Services was notified. The raccoon was reported early Thursday morning and by 3PM still hadn’t been picked up – someone had left a framed photograph of a raccoon & a red rose in its arms. By 8PM, the raccoon still hadn’t been picked up and more items had been left beside the raccoon including flowers and a sheet of paper for people to leave messages. Twitter started the hashtag #DeadRaccoonTO, even Councillor Norm Kelly got in on the action. Was this funny? Or an insensitive take on roadside vigils where family members have died?
