The city’s Bike Share program is set to expand thanks to provincial funding.
Metrolinx will double the size of the city’s bike sharing system with $4.9 million.
The main goal will be to have more bikes available at transit stations.
The program currently has about 1,000 bikes and about 4,000 active users, according to Metrolinx.
The new bikes will deployed by the end of 2016 but there is still no word on exactly where the new stations would be located but they will be placed near transit stations and densely populated areas.
A two-year Metrolinx pilot will also put some bike stations in Hamilton and other area municipalities with those facilities to be installed by Dec. 2017.
